Work experience

If you are currently studyng for your GCSEs or A Levels and feel that a career in law is for you, why not try it out first.

We can offer a limited number of places for pupils (aged between 16 and 18) who are looking to find out more about what life is really like in a law firm.

Many pupils have questions regarding the work experience scheme.  Please read the following Q&As before you apply.

What do I need to be considered for a work experience place?
You need to be aged between 16 and 18 and currently attending a local school or college.  You should have a keen desire to want to pursue a career in law and be studying for subjects that will support this development.

How long can I spend with WH?
We have numerous applications for work experience and therefore we can only offer one week per pupil.

What can I expect from the work experience?
You will get the chance to experience a variety of different practice areas and general office work.  Where possible you will make a contribution in helping with the work within a team.

When should I apply for a work experience place?
You will be able to apply online for work experience from January.  The closing date for applications is 31 March.

How should I apply for a work experience place?
We only accept applications by completion of the on-line application form. If you have any problems with the application form please contact Emma Dunning - emma.dunning@wrighthassall.co.uk

How many work experience spaces do you have per year?
We offer up to 20 pupils work experience places per year, which usually take place in July.  Dates for 2012 placements are 2 to 6 July and 9 to 13 July 2012.

Will I share my placement with another pupil?
Yes, there will be up to 10 pupils attending each week.

When will I know whether I have been successful in securing work experience?
We only have limited availability for work experience and therefore we are unable to offer places to everyone who applies.  We usually contact all applicants in April to confirm whether they have been shortlisted.  The Trainee Partner will visit schools to meet with shortlisted candidates.  You will be notified after this as to whether you have been sucessful.

What time will I be expected to work?
You will start your day at 9am and leave at 5.30pm (although we are flexible on these times).  You will have a lunch break between 12.45 and 2pm.

If I am successful what will happen next?
You will be contacted and given all the information that you will need about your placement and a chance to ask any further questions that you may have.
