Leg Injuries
If you have suffered a leg injury you may be entitled to a compensatory award within one of the following brackets.
Amputations
- Both legs above the knee - £158,000 to £185,000
- Both legs below the knee - £132,000 to £177,500
- Above the knee of one leg - £63,000 to £92,000
- Below the knee of one leg - £60,000 to £86,000
Factors which will affect the level of the award include the circumstances in which your amputation became necessary, the severity of any phantom pains you experience, whether a useful prosthesis can be accommodated and any side effects you have developed following amputation.
Leg injuries
The higher end of this bracket includes extremely serious injuries, including extensive degloving or gross shortening of the leg and fractures that have not united and extensive bone grafting has been undertaken. At the middle to lower end of the bracket are serious to moderate injuries including injuries leading to permanent mobility problems and complicated or multiple fractures.
- Less serious - up to £18,250
Awards at the higher end of the award include fractures from which recovery will be incomplete and at the lower end fractures where recovery is or will be complete or any residual disability is either minor or cosmetic.
The level of the award will depend on the period and extent of your recovery, any residual disabilities you have developed following the injury and any on-going pain you may be suffering.
