Arm and Shoulder Injuries
If you have suffered a shoulder or arm injury you may be entitled to an award in the following brackets. The range of the awards available is extensive and encompasses a broad range of injuries from minor to severe fractures and amputations.
Arm amputations
- Loss of both arms - £158,000 to £197,000
- At the shoulder - Not less than £90,000
- Above the elbow - £72,000 to £86,000
- Below the elbow - £63,000 to £72,000
The level of award will depend on whether the amputation was of your dominant arm, the severity of any phantom pains you may experience and whether a useful prosthesis can be accommodated.
Arm injuries
- Severe – extremely serious and little better off than if arm lost - £63,000 to £86,000
- Permanent / Substantial Disablement- significant residual disability - £25,750 to £39,300
- Less severe - significant disabilities, substantial degree of recovery - £12,600 to £25,750
- Simple forearm fractures - £4,350 to £12,600
Elbow injuries
- Severely disabling injury - £25,750 to £36,000
- Less severe – involving impairment but not significant disability - £10,300 to £21,000
- Moderate or Minor Injury – simple fracture, tennis elbow syndrome - up to £8,250
Shoulder injuries
- Severe - damage to brachial plexus; significant disability - £12,600 to £31,500
- Serious - dislocation & damage lower part of brachial plexus - £8,400 to £12,600
- Moderate- frozen shoulder, limited movement - £5,150 to £8,400
- Minor - soft tissue injury with recovery
- within a year - up to £2,850
- in less than two years - £2,850 to £5,150
- Facture of the clavicle - £3,400 to £8,000
The level of an award will depend on the severity of any residual disability you may have and the extent to which you have been able to recover from your injury.
