There is a sense of ‘good karma’ at a new mother and baby store which has opened in Warwick.
Warwick residents James and Verity Thomas have launched Baby Works which as well as offering a selection of clothes, toys and gear contains a 500sq ft yoga studio.
Wright Hassall, advised Baby Works on the property issues ahead of its opening in the High Street (November 30).
“We left Warwick to live in California for the last four years and like so many working mums today my career demanded that I minimised time away from the workplace and was as physically able to reintegrate into working life as quickly as possible after having my first child,” Verity said.
“In California, mother and baby yoga is now a well recognised form of exercise that is very beneficial to pre and post-pregnancy mums while engaging the infant at the same time.
“Currently such sessions often take place at village halls, but at Baby Works we will offer a dedicated and relaxing environment with lessons from trained instructors.”
James, who previously worked for the Jaguar Formula One racing team and most recently was Jaguar Cars North America Communications Director, said: “My wife and I observed that the mother and baby market in the USA was becoming more sophisticated with an emphasis on mothers maintaining their sense of self, style and sexiness throughout their pregnancy.
“As every mum will point out – just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you have to drown yourself in pastel colours and wear frumpy clothes.”
He added: “There’s certainly been a proliferation of new businesses in Warwick in the four years we’ve been away and the variety of restaurants and shops is now more appropriate to Warwick’s county town status.”
James and Verity, who have two daughters, one-year-old Nieve and four-year-old Thea, have converted the former book shop in the High Street.
Nick Abell, head of Commercial Property at Wright Hassall, said that he was delighted to have been able to assist such an exciting new local business venture.
“I think it is a great idea and it is certainly something different,” he said. “This is the kind of business that every high street needs and I hope Baby Works proves to be a great success.”
