WH assist with new easy-to-use chip and pin cradle

Wright Hassall has helped to win a High Street store trial for an innovative new product, which aims to improve security when customers tap in chip and pin numbers.

WH were called into give legal advice and draft correspondence for Secure Access Solutions Limited.

The company, recently formed by Neil Radford, an Enterprise Fellow of the University of Warwick, has created a special, easy-to-use cradle for chip and pin keypads.

The idea behind the PED Cradle was to help the partially-sighted to see the keypads as it uses an innovative magnifying lens.

But the team behind the idea quickly realised that it also stopped potential criminals from being able to ‘shoulder surf’ customers tapping in their pin number.

And WH has helped the company by advising on the trial of 35 cradles at the Boots store in Cambridge, with the potential to roll out should the pilot deem to be successful.

Laurie Heizler, of Wright Hassall, said: “This is great news for Secure Access Solutions. It is a fantastic idea and one that has massive potential on account of the widespread take up of chip and pin technology.

“I am pleased to say that we have played a role in helping to gain this trial with Boots but the wonderful idea and hard work has all been down to Neil Radford and his team.”

Neil said: “The PED Cradle delivers that extra layer of security and improved accessibility in one simple, easy to use device.

“We are delighted that three years of careful and detailed research and product development has won support and interest from the manufacturers of chip & pin terminals, retailers and banks. Now we have this wonderful opportunity of an in-store trial with Boots.”
