A surgery for human resources managers has been launched by a Warwickshire law-firm.
Wright Hassall will host the free HR forum every other month and bring together managers from the Midlands to discuss problems and ideas.
Over 30 HR professionals attended the first surgery, held at the 200-strong solicitors’ headquarters in Leamington Spa.
The firm’s human resources expert, Ian Besant, led the meeting and helped answer legal questions from managers.
Ian said: “The motivation behind setting-up the surgery was to create a venue where people can come together, have a coffee and talk to one another informally about any ideas or issues they want to discuss.
“We will have a room packed with experience and expertise. If someone is trying to figure out a problem, we can advise them legally and the other guests can give their views.”
“Before we started the meetings, I was contacted a lot by HR departments and asked a variety of questions about how to manage the smoking ban. More recently, the big problem has been absence management.
“Discussing HR issues in a forum environment will help everyone learn and gain perspective. There will be a lot of topical issues at the surgeries which we can tackle, so it will be beneficial to businesses both in the region and further a field.”
The event will also invite guest speakers to talk about different HR issues. Wayne Campbell, Managing Director of Healthy Performance Ltd, was the first speaker and spoke about how HR departments can organise well being projects to make their workforce healthier – and more productive.
The next meeting, at Wright Hassall’s Olympus Avenue HQ, will be on Thursday 15 November at 3.45pm and the topic is an update on cases and legislation. Tickets are free and to request a place, call Caroline Venuto on 01926 886688.
