One Midland law firm is working doubly hard to show it’s willing to help a good cause.
Leamington solicitors Wright Hassall, are preparing to take part in both Myton Hospice’s Make a Will Week, between October 17 and 21, and Will Aid, throughout the month of November.
These events are designed to encourage people to seek expert advice and begin thinking about planning for their estate whilst also giving to charity in the form of a suggested minimum donation – instead of paying a charge to the solicitors.
Last year’s Make a Will Week saw 82 wills drawn up and £8,000 raised by various local solicitors for Myton Hospice.
Wright Hassall participated in both campaigns last year and Claire McGinnity, from the firm’s wills, trusts and tax department, is hopeful of repeating that success this time around.
She said: “We took part in Myton Hospice’s Make a Will Week the first time last year and we have supported Will Aid for several years.
“We are pleased to be involved with both campaigns again this year as not only do they raise money for charity, they bring the need to make a will to people’s attention – this is important bearing in mind that only one in three people have a will.
“Preparing a will is something that people often overlook because, understandably, there is always something more immediate that needs doing.
“But events like this are beginning to make people realise that organising your estate is important, especially given the ever-changing nature of the modern family unit.
“There is a suggested minimum donation, similar to what you would usually pay a solicitor for a will which instead is paid directly to the charities.
“We have already received a high level of interest in this year’s events and there is a limited capacity so I would urge anyone interested to contact us as soon as possible.”
