British Show Jumpers back in the Nations Cup

British Equestrian Federation ("BEF") -v- Federation Equestre Internationale ("FEI")

Wright Hassall acted for the BEF on an Appeal against a decision of the FEI relegating the Great Britain Show Jumping team from the Top League of the Nations Cup 2010. An Appeal was made initially to the FEI Tribunal and then to the Court of Arbitration for Sport ("CAS"). As a result CAS annulled the decision of the FEI and reinstated the Great Britain team, also awarding costs to BEF.

The case concerned difficult issues relating to the interpretation of sporting rules, the position of the national governing body and its powers to change and interpret its own rules and the competing interests of a team wishing to compete in a sporting competition.

CAS allowed the Appeal from the FEI Tribunal and reinstated the Great Britain Team.

Following the GB team's win at the Hickstead leg of the Nations Cup on 30 July, they are now assured a place in the 2011 Nations Cup competition. Read here for more information.
