A Midlands law firm has seen its construction department go from strength to strength during the recession – and has brought in a chartered civil engineer to bolster the team.
Business has improved during the last 18 months for Leamington-based Wright Hassall’s specialist department, which deals with dispute resolution, contract matters and contentious construction work.
The firm has now appointed Madelaine Hanlon, from BPE Solicitors, where she primarily dealt with contentious construction work.
“I’ve known the construction team at Wright Hassall for quite some time and always been impressed by them, so when the opportunity to join them was offered I was absolutely delighted,” Miss Hanlon said.
“Having been actively engaged in the construction industry for some 18 years, I’ve got a different background to most in the team, and this brings an added dimension to the discussions we have with clients and to our understanding of the problems that our clients face.
“My training as a chartered civil engineer and chartered arbitrator means that I try to find practical and cost-effective solutions to problems, and that matches Wright Hassall’s construction team’s ethos exactly.
“My appointment to the construction team demonstrates perfectly Wright Hassall’s often innovative approach to providing legal services.”
Miss Hanlon, who lives in Birmingham, has been a chartered civil engineer since 1985 but made the switch from civil engineer to legal consultant in 2001, becoming a chartered arbitrator in 2007.
Philip Harris, head of the construction and engineering department at Wright Hassall, said: “Madelaine brings something different to the department and we’re delighted she has joined the team.
“Everyone in the industry has had a difficult year but we’ve worked hard for our clients and we’ve remained busy. Madelaine’s arrival will be a great benefit to our existing clients, and she will be able continue giving her own clients a great service knowing that she has the back-up of the rest of the team.”
“Now that the worst of the recession seems to be over, we will continue to grow our client base both in the Midlands as well as nationally.”
