Kenilworth Show celebrates its 65th year

The 65th Kenilworth Show promises to be the best ever with even more exhibitors and a new record attendance, according to organisers.

Run by the Kenilworth and District Agricultural Society, the event has grown ever more popular and this year’s show at Hurst Farm, Crackley Lane, on Sunday June 1 is expected to top last year’s record 6,500 visitors.

Show secretary Alison Gillis said that early indications were that last year’s ticket sales and the 25 per cent increase in exhibitors would both be exceeded this year.

She said: “It’s a great day out for families who can watch country pursuits, such as sheep dog trials, the Warwickshire hunt, bee keeping and falconry displays, as well as enjoying our trade stands, the shopping marquee and food and drink from many local suppliers.

“This year’s line up of dancing diggers, racing terriers, pony club games, vintage machinery and children’s attractions will make for a fun-packed day and we are expecting a bumper turnout.”

The Kenilworth Show - which kicks off the agricultural show calendar - is a well-loved traditional agricultural event, which attracts farmers from all over the country showing their sheep, cattle, alpacas and other livestock. It is also a major focal point for equestrian competitors.

John Rouse, show committee member and partner at principal sponsors Wright Hassall Solicitors in Leamington, added: “Agricultural and rural businesses are key to the local economy across the sub-region and the Kenilworth Show is a vital way of highlighting and showcasing them. Wright Hassall is a long-term supporter of the rural economy in Warwickshire, which is why we have supported the show for so many years.”
