On your marks!
Organisers of the Wright Hassall Regency 10k Run are giving runners a head start in their race to make this Olympic year a personal best.
Spa Striders athletics club, along with the CSW Athletics Network and the University of Warwick Endurance Academy, are organising a ten-week training programme to help those entering the event to prepare – regardless of their previous level of experience.
This starts with a runner’s workshop at Trinity School on Sunday January 22 that will be opened by three-time Olympian and former 5,000m world record holder, Dave Moorcroft.
There will also be expert athletics coaches on hand to provide information on everything from nutrition and injury management to training exercises and a race profile.
Entry to the race, which is now in its eighth year and has been sponsored by law firm Wright Hassall since its inception, has now opened and those hoping to be on the start line on Sunday April 15 will have to be quick off the mark as the 2,500 capacity event received 1,000 entrants in its first nine days last year.
The programme takes place on consecutive Wednesday evenings starting on February 1. Non-members do not have to join the Club to take part but must enrol either at the Regency Workshop or Spa Striders HQ at Leamington Tennis Club, Guys Cliffe Avenue on 25th January at 8.00pm.
Race organiser, Russell Hall of Leamington Round Table and Spa Striders, feels this programme is the perfect way for those who are thinking about entering but aren’t sure how to prepare to take those all important first steps.
He said: “For many people the only thing stopping them from taking part is the fact that they don’t feel they know how to get ready for it.
“This programme provides them with everything they need to prepare for what is a fantastic event, regardless of whether they have taken part before or not.
“The event has grown every year and we are particularly grateful to Wright Hassall for their continued support. We were also delighted to see such great support and enthusiasm from local residents last year so we are keen to get as many people as possible involved again.
“Given that it is an Olympic year too it would be great to see as many people as possible taking part and achieving the best possible results.”
