Construction companies have been given the low-down on vital legislation by the man who knows it best, thanks to a Leamington firm.
Sir Michael Latham, chairman of the Construction Industry Training Board and Construction Skills, was hired by the Government to carry out a review of the Housing Grants Construction and Regeneration Act 1996.
That review is now complete and Sir Michael discussed his findings at the Wright Hassall Construction Conference at the National Motorcycle Museum near Solihull.
Philip Harris and Robert Sliwinski who jointly head the construction law department at Leamington-based Wright Hassall said the seminar had been invaluable to the 100 delegates from across the country.
Robert said: “There is simply no-one who knows the act and its review better than Sir Michael. He originally recommended the Government implement legislation to improve payment in the construction industry in his 1994 report "Constructing the Team", and was then hired to carry out the review.
“He has long been an advocate of improvements in the construction industry and is at the forefront of driving through measures to that end.”
The conference also heard from leading arbitrator and adjudicator Chris Dancaster, Dr Rudi Klein – chair of the Specialist Engineering Contractors Group – and Wright Hassall lawyers Philip Harris and Simon Wain.
