The third Wright Hassall Regency Run is set to raise around £25,000 for good causes.

A record 1,500 runners took part in the event in Leamington which has been held for the past three years, and should bring the biggest ever sponsorship total.

Rob Minton of Stratford AC broke the record for the 10k course, coming home in 33 minutes and 23 seconds – ahead of Emerson Combstock (Coventry Godiva) and Chris Stokes (Sphinx).

Sue Harrison of Leamington C&AC was the first women to cross the line, finishing in 35.32, followed by club mate Monica Williamson and Karen Hallis of Coventry Triathlon.

Russell Hall, from organisers Leamington Round Table said: “This was the best event to date and Rob won in a very good time. We had good weather and the event appealed to all the different standards of runners.

“Everyone played a major part in the success, and our volunteers on all areas of the course were superb. It was a massive success.”

Law firm Wright Hassall has backed the race since it began in 2005 and was one of several teams taking part.

Jane Senior, of Wright Hassall, said: “It was a superb event and we were blessed with the weather. The Round Table do a fantastic job in organising the day and it was great to see so many people out enjoying what is a great course.”

Money raised from the race will be donated to charities across Leamington, including the two main chosen charities Adventure Activities for All Abilities at Leamington Canoe Club and Bath Place Community Venture.
