Construction companies from the Midlands should consider more sustainable energy products to help drive down costs, an industry expert has urged.
Tim Pollard, head of sustainability at Wolseley UK, was speaking to around 35 representatives from the industry as part of Wright Hassall solicitors’ Construction Law Bytes series.
Mr Pollard hosted the guests at Wolseley’s £3.2million Sustainable Building Center at Spa Park, Leamington, to highlight the long-term savings the firms and their clients could make.
Mr Pollard said: “It’s a message people want to hear more about at the moment.
“The trend towards more sustainable products is being driven by economic, legislative and environmental factors. We highlighted a number of ways in which companies can benefit from investing in sustainable products and renewable technologies.
“The seminar also highlighted the fact that there are practical and useable alternatives to conventional products on the market – and there are commercial quantities of those products ready, today.”
The Law Bytes seminars were formed by Wright Hassall, of Leamington Spa, to provide a forum for firms in the area on topical issues in the industry.
Philip Harris, who heads the construction team at the 200-strong law firm, said: “Wolseley has long been an advocate of sustainable building products and has vast experience in supplying these products, so the benefits of the talk to the guests should have been significant.
“The law bytes seminars continue to grow in popularity. Our next event will have Graeme Chaplin, from the Bank of England, as the main speaker so it will be another beneficial meet.”
