Wright Hassall Regency Run 2010

More than 2,350 runners enjoyed Leamington in the spring as they took part in a record Wright Hassall Regency 10k run.

It was the largest field in the event’s six year history and raised more than £30,000 for local causes, took the total fund raising past the £150,000 mark.

The event organised by Leamington Round Table and sponsored by law firm Wright Hassall, goes over Newbold Comyn and through the streets of Leamington before finishing in Mill Gardens.

Organiser Russell Hall said this year’s race had been the best ever.

“It was a great day. We had the biggest field, the weather was perfect and there was great support not only from the friends and relatives of those taking part, but from local residents.

“It was really good to see everyone out and about on what has been the nicest weekend of the year, and I think that is one reason why we had so many people lining the route.”

The event is for fun runners and serious athletes and has just been voted the second best 10k in the United Kingdom.

Nick Abell, senior partner at Wright Hassall, said: “Once again the run has grown stronger and to raise such an incredible amount of money for local causes is something we’re delighted to be a part of.

“This is now Leamington’s showcase run of the year and it is great that at one end of the field you have international runners, at the other you have senior citizens who want a challenge.

“There’s a very nice community feel to the event and Russell and the Round Table have done a fantastic job of organising the event – and we hope to continue supporting the run for many years to come.”

The winner was James Trollope of Birchfield Harriers, who finished in a record time of 31:00, followed by previous winner Ryan Kenny of Coventry Godiva Harriers who crossed the line in 31:35.

Another Birchfield Harrier, Joyce Kandie, was the first female home in 35:09, beating local international athlete Sue Harrison.

Coventry Godiva Harries won the male team event, Leamington C&AC won the ladies team event. National Grid triumphed in the corporate team event ahead of sponsors Wright Hassall.
