Carol is the head of the Social Housing department. She joined the firm in 1995 from Winckworth & Pemberton in London and specialises in all non-contentious aspects of social housing law including corporate and governance issues, group structures and all property-related matters including housing management. She has led many LSVTs and is recognised by Chambers UK as a leading practitioner in the field of social housing law.

She regularly gives seminars on all aspects of social housing law and is on the the National Housing Federation Rules Panel.

Carol Matthews advises the firm's social housing clients on an extensive range of property, corporate and governance issues, and recently led on advising Heart of England Housing Association on a large-scale redevelopment project. Sources say she is "very personable, diligent, organised and always gets back to me quickly."

The firm advises a raft of loyal registered providers and local authorities on acquisitions, redevelopment, grant funding, housing management and contentious commercial matters. Recent highlights include advising Orbit Homes and Marches Housing Association on a number of site acquisitions, as well as advising Dudley MBC on obtaining Homes & Communities Agency grant funding for newbuild social housing across five sites in Dudley.

Background

Carol graduated from Warwick University with a history degree and qualified as a solicitor in 1980.
