Laura is a Solicitor Advocate in the Commercial Disputes department and specialises in the following:

  • Commercial Litigation Disputes including:
    • commercial contract disputes involving breach of contract, indemnity claims, and breach of agency;
    • disputes relating to sale of goods and supply of good and services
    • partnership disputes
  • Equestrian matters including:
    • disputes arising out of the purchase, sale and keep of horses and ponies, including breach of contract and misrepresentation;
    • veterinary negligence,
    • drafting and advising upon loan, lease and livery agreements.

  • Sports regulatory and dispute resolution including:
    • advising in respect of disciplinary and regulatory procedures on behalf of national governing bodies;
    • advising in respect of disciplinary disputes on behalf of national governing bodies
    • sports tribunal work including appeals to Sports Resolution and the Court of Arbitration for Sport
  • Advocacy including interim applications (such as summary judgment, setting aside default judgment, strike out, and case management conferences), bankruptcy hearings and a variety of trials.

Recent cases of note include:

  • Successfully acted on behalf of the owner of an International Grand Prix Dressage Horse in respect of veterinary negligence (2011);
  • Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) – BEF -v- FEI, Laura assisted the lead Partner in the case of British Equestrian Federation and British Showjumping in an appeal to the FEI Tribunal (2009) and CAS (2010) relating to the decision of the FEI to relegate the Great Britain Show Jumping Team from the Top League of the Nations Cup. The appeal was successful, Team GB were reinstated into the 2010 Top Level Meydan Nations Cup and came 3rd overall in the 2010 Series
  • Successful appeal to Sports Resolution on behalf of British Showjumping in respect of disciplinary action against a member (2009).
  • Continuing to represent a variety of National Governing Bodies in disciplinary and regulatory hearings at national level (2009 to present).
  • Assistant lead partner in the case of Daventry District Council v Daventry & District Housing (2010).
  • Continuing to advise a large independent financial services network in relation to breach of contract, indemnity claims and debt recovery.
  • Successfully advising in respect of a number of contractual disputes involving recruitment agents (2008-2009)

Background

Laura graduated from Birmingham University with an LLB Honours Degree and completed the Legal Practice Course at Birmingham College of Law. Laura qualified as a solicitor in April 2008 and qualified to be a Solicitor Advocate with Higher Rights of Audience in 2010.

Interests

Laura enjoys horse riding, working with horses at weekends, Latin American and ballroom dancing, and scuba diving.
