Madelaine joined the Wright Hassall construction team in August 2009. She is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Chartered Arbitrator, a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Since moving towards the more legal aspects of the construction and engineering profession in 2001, Madelaine now specialises in contentious and non-contentious construction and engineering law. Her work includes providing contract advice and dealing with disputes, with particular experience in adjudication. She has a particular interest in seeking the most appropriate and cost-effective methods of dispute resolution.
Madelaine is the Honorary Secretary of the West Midlands Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Madelaine has over 24 years’ varied experience in the construction industry having worked for consultant practices, a specialist sub-contractor and a client organisation. She has gained extensive experience in a variety of aspects of the construction industry including: highway infrastructure and civil structures design; project management; contract administration; claim preparation and assessment; estimating and tendering; planning and programming; Planning Supervisor duties.
The diverse range of projects with which she has been involved include: major infrastructure development at a new international airport; trunk road and bridge design and construction; highway improvement works; strengthening of high-rise buildings; asbestos removal; building demolition; mineshaft and shallow mineworking remedial measures; steel plate girder fabrication for composite bridges and multi-storey buildings; commercial, industrial and housing developments; building refurbishment; and underpinning works.
Interests
Madelaine enjoys a catholic and mildly eclectic taste in music from Thomas Tallis and Stan Getz to Metallica and John Lee Hooker. She has an interest in keeping fit which sometimes manifests itself in the form of exercise. She also enjoys going to the theatre and the cinema, reading autobiographies, gardening, good beer, and trying to keep a classic sports car running.
