3. As a minority shareholder, am I protected against being treated unfairly?

Legally, yes. The directors of the company are required to treat all shareholders fairly.

In practice, the situation can be less straightforward. Other shareholders may exert significant control over the board's decisions. Showing that these decisions are unfair or having them overturned can be difficult.

You will be better protected if there is an appropriate shareholders' agreement (see question 12).
