A Grant of Representation is a formal legal document allowing the deceased's personal representatives to deal with the estate. Grants are issued by the Court through Probate Registries. They are called 'Grants of Probate' if the deceased made a valid will and 'Grants of Letters of Administration' if the deceased died intestate (i.e. without having made a valid will). Generally, you will need to obtain a Grant of Representation if the value of the estate exceeds £5,000.
