Every effort should be made to find out if there is a will. If not, then the deceased will have died intestate. You will need to identify the next-of-kin, who will have responsibility for dealing with the administration of the estate. This is not always clear cut. Matters could also be complicated if the estate is worth more than a certain amount of money. The law on intestacy is complex and appropriate legal advice should always be sought.
