1. Do I need to register the death and how do I go about doing this?

All deaths need to be registered. Anyone present at the death can do this.

Alternatively, registration can be undertaken by the person arranging the funeral or by a relation living in the locality of the person who has died. You will need to go to the local Registry for Births and Deaths, taking with you the medical certificate provided by the hospital or GP. The Registry for Births and Deaths will charge you a fee for the death certificate and you should get a few copies, because these may be useful later on.
