Commercial Property

Commercial Property

Commercial Property is undoubtedly one of the most diverse and engaging areas of legal practice. In any one day, we can go from handling a lease renewal for a local business, to a negotiating a multi-million pound development in another part of the country. Commercial property work is varied and often fascinating; after all, property is one of the great drivers of economic prosperity. That's why we're property lawyers - we like to be at the heart of things.

Our experience

We can help you with any commercial property matter whether it is part of a complex corporate transaction or a straightforward lease negotiation. We act for a wide range of clients from small businesses to blue chip corporates, both locally and nationally.  Because we have one of the largest commercial property teams in the Midlands and because many of us gained our experience at larger national firms, there is very little we haven't seen or handled. We can match the correct level of resource to your transaction regardless of size.

We are supported by the complementary expertise of other specialist departments including property litigation, construction, planning and environmental. Electronic communication, document handling, case control and reporting systems are streamlined through effective use of IT.

This team's efficiency and helpful advice come in for high praise from market sources alongside its ability to meet tight deadlines. The large, Leamington Spa-based team is vastly experienced in complex development, investment and funding work but also handles day-to-day sales, acquisitions and leasing issues. It is currently representing Orbit Group in its ongoing acquisitions of land and buildings in the Midlands, and is also acting for Cassidy Group on its site assembly for a mixed-use development in Coventry. ConocoPhilips, TUI and JCDecaux also consult the team.

Sources Say:
“The friendly style is a refreshing change from the ‘mightier than thou’ attitude of many law firms".

Wright Hassall’s recent move to new offices has made a huge impression, with many observers noting that “it seems to be moulding itself into a more commercial firm that can compete with the bigger Birmingham outfits.” Further evidence of the group’s ambition is provided by the spate of new recruits to the property team, which will enhance its expertise in residential development. Clients applaud the firm for keeping its feet on the ground despite these changes, reporting: “It still has a ‘small firm’ feel - you get that personalised service.” They also praise the property team’s “speedy and efficient approach - the lawyers always meet deadlines and return calls.” The team represents numerous landowners, mainly advising on disposals. It also handles landlord and tenant work for retail clients and is becoming increasingly well known for its secured lending work - it has been appointed to several bank panels. Highlights of the past year include advising on the property aspects of the sale of Brights Chemists to Boots. Clients single out the “reliable and dependableDavid Slade for his copious experience of major property deals. He is currently acting on behalf of a foreign government on its acquisition of property for its embassy in West London.
