Charities

The new Charities Act 2006 received Royal Assent in November 2007 and one of the key changes is a new legal meaning of 'charity'. With many years experience of advising both national and regional charities, we can give guidance on all issues relating to both charities and not-for-profit organisations including constitutional and governance matters as well as day to day operation.

We have an established track record across a range of sectors including housing, local authorities, education, agriculture, sport, welfare and youth. Charities for which we act include theĀ ARC Addington Fund, Rural Stress Information Network, Warwickshire College, Rare Breeds Survival Trust and several housing associations.

We can advise on the following:

  • obtaining charitable status and incorporation
  • director & trustee duties and responsibilities
  • commercial agreements concerning charities
  • regulatory aspects of charity governance
  • terms & conditions of grant giving
  • employment
  • intellectual property matters
  • property including sale, purchase and leasehold

We also produce guides and articles for the sector that address the practical problems faced by charities.
