For the second consecutive year Wright Hassall attended the biggest games development conference in the UK – Develop: Brighton which once again was at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Brighton.

With the huge cluster of local video games companies making the trip down to the south-coast, we in the office have affectionately named Develop “Leamington-on-Sea” as we always bump into a variety of friends, clients and other contacts from the Silicon Spa cluster as well as chatting to developers and other companies from not just across the UK but the rest of the world too.

Silicon Spa

The main expo itself saw local businesses being showcased as part of the Silicon Spa stand (provided by the local council and Invest in Warwickshire) where we were excited to play the latest games in development from Sabresaurus and Very Good Friend as well seeing the awesome VR Karts in action from Viewpoint Games. Also representing Silicon Spa was the Ubisoft stand, which had representatives from both Reflections by Ubisoft (based in Newcastle upon Tyne) and Ubisoft Leamington in attendance.

Playground Games

But that wasn’t all for our attendance and we had the pleasure of being able to attend the awards dinner with Very Good Friend and Warwick District Council that evening to celebrate all things gaming over the last 12 months. Silicon Spa was also a winner on the night, with Playground Games winning the Best Independent Studio award (as well as being nominated Best Studio overall and for Visual Design, Music Design and Sound Design for their work on Forza Horizon 3). Well done to everyone at Playground for their success.

The team at Wright Hassall are already fighting over who gets to go next year!
