Michael has been a solicitor for over 30 years. He has had an extensive career in both the private and public sectors. From 1993 he worked for Darby’s Solicitors LLP in Oxford initially as a solicitor, partner and then consultant. 

His experience in areas of regulatory law include  advising and defending private and corporate clients in health and safety, environmental protection, trading standards and food safety, general crime and  public law  together with prosecution work  for public body clients, including local authorities, government departments and  the Royal Mail.  He continues to act as a Duty Solicitor in both the police station and Magistrates’ Courts.

Michael is also a qualified Interpersonal Mediator which includes workplace mediation.

Experience

  • Advised property management company on criminal investigation by the Fire Authority into inadequate fire protection within a social housing block of flats
  • Regularly advising independent schools on health and safety policies, risk assessments and other adhoc policies relating to pupils e.g management of medicines, drug and alcohol abuse
  • HSE investigation- serious injury: representing  senior manager on his apparent failure to adequately risk assess and manage  staff for the provision of appropriate care needs for a  resident with special needs in the independent health and social care sector .
  • HSE investigation of corporate manslaughter –representing a small SME where a death occurred of an employee in the workplace

Interests

Michael is involved in a variety of aspects of cricket which includes his  role as the County Welfare Officer (Safeguarding), to delivering courses as an ECB Tutor/Coach Educator and coaching in his local club. He spent much of his younger days travelling and where time allows still enjoys exploring hidden gems.
