Linda Boateng

Locum - Planning Lawyer

Linda is a highly experienced Planning Lawyer who has a mixture of public and private sector planning work and has also spent time acting for the Secretary of State at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, now MHCLG.

Experience

  • Acted in relation to a number of central London developments:
    • Mixed use London Square Developments’ scheme in Canada Water;
    • Mixed use development on No.1 Bank End (former Vinopolis site) for a new shopping centre;
    • Friars Bridge Court 41-45 Blackfriars Road – Section 106 Agreement for 22 storey office led mixed use development securing over £2m in Crossrail contributions;
    • Kipling Estates Garages – 100% Social Housing Scheme;
    • 300 Harrow Road – 100% Affordable Housing and Affordable Workspace;
    • Regeneration of Whiteleys Shopping Centre;
    • 5 Kingdom Street - 53,000m2 office led development – called in by the Mayor of London and approved;
  • Acted for The Gym Group on its acquisition of 13 sites from Easygym worth £24m carrying out due diligence and advising on risk;
  • Successful CLEUD application to confirm the lawful use of 4 separate units to use as one residential dwelling;
  • Won Judicial Review against Westminster City Council leading to the quashing of planning permission for rooftop development in Central London and costs awarded to the successful claimant;
  • Acted for the Secretary of State in relation to the High Court litigation regarding the disclosure of ministerial submissions (Friends of the Earth v SSLUC and others [2023] EWHC 3255);
  • Acted for Secretary of State in relation to High Court challenge to the governments use of RAF Weathersfield as Asylum accommodation;
  • Advice in relation to Environmental Information Regulations 2004 disclosure requests;
  • Legal Officer to the Planning Committee at both Westminster City Council and Brent Council and has represented objectors to a planning application at a planning committee at the London Borough of Camden;
  • Lead Lawyer at Brent Council in relation to advising the Council on delivering Biodiversity Net Gain and requiring the same in s106 Agreements.

Career

Linda did her undergraduate Law degree at the University of Manchester and qualified as a Solicitor in 2015.  

Interests

Outside work Linda enjoys hiking, going to the theatre and cooking and admits to being a proud fan of MasterChef. Linda also has a passion for interior design and is currently undertaking an interior design diploma at the National Design Academy. Linda is also an active church member and offers career mentoring to law graduates.
