Susan advises on all types of matters in the Private Client team, including Wills, powers of attorney, tax planning including inheritance tax and capital gains tax, and probate. Her particular expertise is in relation to trusts, e.g. the creation, administration and winding up of trusts, all documents to do with trusts, and their taxation. Her main emphasis is to help clients look after their assets and their families.
She advises clients and other professionals on trustees’ powers, duties and obligations, and has significant knowledge of the meaning of and how to deal with older trust documents, which may have been in existence for decades. Susan advises a significant number of landowners, farmers, landed estates and agribusinesses on bespoke tax and estate planning, among other matters and works closely with the Agriculture and Rural Families’ team.
Susan is known for her ability to communicate complicated legal and taxation rules in a straightforward and understandable way. She is “recommended” by the Legal 500.
Susan has been a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) since 1991 and was the first chairman of one of its branches.
