Data breach resulting in the theft of personal data

A record £183m fine is to be levied by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) against British Airways for a data breach resulting in the theft of personal data of half a million of its customers. The airline has expressed ‘surprise and disappointment’ at the news; perhaps an understatement given that the previous record fine of £500,000 seems almost negligible in comparison!

Our high street stores and the pensions connection

We have been told for a number of years that people are increasingly shopping online and visiting our high streets less. There is much analysis on why this might be, not least because many people are now working longer hours (possibly as a result of fears about job security following the last recession), we have less free time and online retailers have made significant technical improvements such that it is simply easier for many to shop in this way.

IR35 – What do you need to know?

IR35 has been a hot topic in the last month or so since HM Revenue & Customs' (HMRC's) consultation on IR35 reform. It is apparent from recent discussions and the consultation itself that it is extremely important for businesses to begin preparing for the IR35 changes now as the new rules will apply from April 2020.
