Richard Phillips
Richard is a Senior Paralegal within the Property Litigation team working predominantly on commercial property matters.

Richard assists the Property Litigation team with both commercial and residential matters, spending the majority of his time handling commercial lease renewals and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the limitation dates for this high-risk area.

Experience
Richard was previously involved in residential leasehold enfranchisement assisting both leaseholders and freeholders with this process which included preparing and serving Section 42 and 1967 Act Notices of Claim and Section 45 Notices in Reply. He also has some experience in debt recovery and portfolio management having been responsible for collecting arrears for a property portfolio and liaising with tenants regarding payments and other matters.
With regards to commercial matters, Richard has experience in preparing and serving Section 25 and 26 notices as well as managing active court proceedings and issuing protective proceedings should this be required. As already mentioned, he is now responsible for the day-to-day management of limitation dates for this high-risk area.
Richard also previously had the responsibility of the day-to-day management of the mortgage repossession portfolio for a major high-street lender. This involved managing cases from letters before action, possession proceedings and enforcement action.
Richard also assists senior members of the Property Litigation team on various other matters where required such as adverse possession claims and TLATA claims.
Career
Richard graduated from Newcastle University with a 2:1 BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology. Richard subsequently studied the Graduate Diploma in Law part-time with the University of Law whilst working full-time and passed this in July 2023 achieving a Commendation.
In September 2024, Richard will begin studying the Legal Practice Course with the University of Law.
Interests
Outside work Richard enjoys music (playing piano, violin and guitar), anything technology related, long walks and watching rugby and cricket.
Richard has also recently taken up clay pigeon shooting and goes whenever possible.
