Niall O'Brien
Niall is a property litigation paralegal with notable experience in housing management, particularly disrepair, injunctions and possession claims.
About Niall
Niall’s specialism is dealing with a variety of issues within housing management and property litigation, most notably disrepair, ASB injunctions, and rent/ASB possession claims. Niall has dealt with several pre-litigated matters, offering the best advice to social landlords and RHPs on how to deal with problematic tenants and disrepair claims against them, and advising them on how to resolve disputes before proceedings are issued.
He is excited to broaden his knowledge on property litigation with Wright Hassall on his journey on becoming a well-rounded lawyer in property litigation.
"The property litigation team has some impressive corporate clients, who trust the firm with their commercial landlord and tenant work."
Experience
Niall’s specialist area is disrepair and ASB injunctions, dealing with difficult tenants who have abused the terms of their tenancy by committing ASB or accruing rent arrears. He has successfully helped clients obtain outright possession orders, injunctions, and helped draft solid liability advice for various RHPs who have had tenants alleging disrepair and/or failure to carry out works or repairs.
Career
After obtaining his law degree at Birkbeck, University of London, Niall worked remotely as a legal transcriptionist during the Covid pandemic, before becoming an admin assistant in the probate department at HMCTS/MoJ. This was shortly followed by his first work within a law firm, becoming a legal secretary at Devonshires Solicitors based in Birmingham’s city centre. His fellow colleagues were that impressed by his conscientiousness, thoroughness and work ethic that he was quickly offered a role as a paralegal within the Housing Management and Property Litigation team. This was Niall’s first “foot in the door” with fee-earning work. After gaining this experience, Niall sought to broaden his knowledge and experience within property litigation, applying for the paralegal role within Wright Hassall where he was subsequently offered the role.
Interests
Outside work, Niall enjoys acting, singing, dancing, playing guitar, video gaming, learning Spanish, swimming, going to the gym and video editing. He is also a passionate vegan and activist for LGBTQIA+ rights and equality.
