Andrew started his career working for a major national house builder on site acquisition and disposal and then applied that knowledge acting for housing associations for nearly 40 years. He uses his wealth of experience in a pragmatic way to achieve the best outcomes for the variety of development acquisitions.
His hands-on approach helps guide clients through an acquisition from start to finish setting up the site properly to sell and raise finance. He has also led and completed 12 housing stock transfers.

Andrew has seen it all and examples of his varied experience include
- Advising a major house builder how to apply the public highway legislation to adopt a road where no rights of access existed;
- Drafting and negotiating the first environmental insurance policy supporting the environmental warranties in a housing stock transfer (an initiative that is widely recognised as enabling most of the urban transfers to take place);
- Advising and negotiating the first Vat Savings Scheme for a housing stock transfer;
- Advising on a proposed modular build solution for a development site for a housing association;

After gaining his law degree at the University of Wales (Cardiff), Birmingham-born Andrew qualified in 1981 with Birmingham firm Johnson and Co and then joined Needham and James where he became a partner in 1984. Needham and James merged with Shakespeare Martineau and he stayed there until in joined Wright Hassall as sector lead in 2016.
Outside work Andrew enjoys watching soccer, rugby, cricket and the Le Mans 24 hour race (which he has attended for the last 20 years), travel and general family life.
